The film, set in the Adriatic Sea in the interwar period, begins with the titular character Porco Rosso, a veteran World War I fighter ace and freelance bounty hunter, responding to an alert over an attack on a ferry liner by airborne pirates. Porco Rosso spends his days relaxing in his hideout while taking freelance jobs. It tells the story of a valiant pig who fought against flying pirates, for his pride, for his lover, and for his fortune. This film is set over the Mediterrenean Sea in an age when seaplanes ruled the waves. "If you fly, you can see." The film stars the voices of Shuichiro Moriyama, Tokiko Kato, Akemi Okamura and Akio Otsuka, Toshio Suzuki produced the film for Studio Ghibli. Once called Marco Pagot, he is now known to the world as "Porco Rosso", which in Italian is for ¨Crimson Pig¨. However, an unusual curse has transformed him to an anthropomorphic pig.
